TV Aerials

Today was the beginning of stage 1 of the Emley Moor transmitter Digital Switch Over.

As expected and from experience of the Belmont Digital Switchover the phones have been on fire with many members of the general public being unaware and unable to re tune their digital equipment – the majority have been elderly or simply unable to comprehend what is required, let alone navigate through the TV menu’s or use the remotes with so many small buttons all crammed in (when will manufacturers make a simple remote with a basic button layout).

With the increased signal levels from Belmont many customers have ended up with numerous duplicate channels usually with the correct ones listed in the 800 numbers, sorting these out can prove very time consuming and confusing unless you know what frequencies you actually require – this usually requires the TV to be wiped clean of previous digital channels and data and then manually tuning each digital multiplex this helps ensure the unwanted signals are not collected.

It doesn’t help that many installers have been throwing up wide band aerials on every install even a group B transmitter like Emley Moor, this is causing many of the digital signals from Belmont to be picked up from the sides/back of the wide band aerial and added to the TV system – when if a good quality group B aerial had been used, it would act like a crude filter and help reject all signals out of band B – sometimes these signals from Belmont are so overpowering we have even been having to add and in a couple of cases stack group B filters to reject these unwanted signals and enable customers to run an auto tune without the fear of doubling up TV stations.
