Why pick Picture Perfect Aerials?

With so much choice from so many aerial and satellite companies it can be hard to decide who to pick?, who’s good?. who’s not?, who’s been around for a bit> and who’ll be around in the future should a problem occur?.

We believe Picture Perfect Aerials are the best aerial and satellite installers in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire and Humberside and many of both our previous and present customers will tell you the same.

Why do we believe we are the best?

Qualified

Qualifications are very important in every Industry, they show competence and are the proof that you have the right skills for the job.

Would you let an unqualified plumber or electrician work on your property ?

So why use an aerial or satellite installer with no qualifications?

We have been trained by both Sky and the CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) and have accreditation’s from not only them but also a Safe Working at Heights Certificate, City and Guilds Certificates in Electronic and Electrical Servicing (Signal Reception) and have attended seminars from Promax Electronics and gained certification in ‘Understanding Digital Television Transmissions’, we also have gained System Q CCTV certification as well as all our staff being Digital UK Approved adviser’s.

Experience…

We have been installing aerials and satellite systems since the advent of Digital TV when most houses only had 1 main TV and the others were run off an indoor aerial.

Picture Perfect Aerials was established in 2003 but prior to that the business owner Kelvin Massey was aerial rigging whilst also being hired working as part of a ‘Special Heights Team’ for SKY, this involved surveying and carrying out satellite installations where others have said it was not possible.

As times have changed our experience has grown, from installing aerials to get the five analogue stations to working with the initial low powered Digital TV signals and now we see the opposite where TV transmitter signals are extremely powerful and rather than amplifying its time to attenuate to reduce the off air signals and filter out the unwanted signals to help prevent transmitter overlap.

Now we see High Definition and 3D TV via satellite and several of these HD channels are available through a roof top aerial – TV over the Internet is becoming more and more popular as Internet speeds increase so we move forward -now as people’s systems and expectations grow we are having to advance and use different methods to satisfy thier needs.  Setting up peoples TV distribution systems with cat5e and cat6 Ethernet cables and HDMI leads to allow HD and 3D distribution and control via matrix’s and switches is becoming more and more popular.  Fibre optic cabled satellite systems are readily available which allow signals to pass for kilometers with next to no signal loss, so satellite dishes can be positioned discreetly and the distance doesn’t play such a factor.

As always you can trust we will progress with technology to ensure YOU are up-to date and so is our experience and skill set.

Test Equipment….

Using the correct testing equipment is an obvious advantage and whilst there are many different brands and manufacturers out there all providing different performance Promax TV explorers are some of the best out there and no professional installer should be without a decent spectrum analyser – some may get by with just a cheap bleeper and tester, after all its how we all started out – BUT once you hit a problem with reception unless you are using a professional piece of kit that can read all signals and analyse them in detail then its just a guessing game.

Promax Explorers are equipped with a spectrum analyser and TV screen as well as being able to do the following

  • Video decoding: MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 H.264
  • Audio decoding: Dolby Digital Plus, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and AAC
  • Video formats: SD (standard definition) and HD (high definition)
  • Video resolutions: 1080i, 720p and 576i
  • Screen formats: 16:9 and 4:3
  • HDMI interface
  • DVB-T2, DVB-T/H, DVB-C and DVB-S/S2
  • CAM module (Conditional Access) for encrypted channels
  • TS-ASI input and output

Local Family Run Business…..
Picture Perfect Aerials ARE a locally based family run company in Scunthorpe – we are not a national outfit or franchise.

Being local we have extensive knowledge of the area and surrounding villages and know what works where and what doesn’t.

We treat all our customers with respect (how we would like to be treated) and offer a service that’s second to none.  Our Aim is to be the best Aerial and Satellite Installation company in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire and Humberside.

Smart Staff….

All our staff are dressed in a smart uniform and in a professional looking sign written van and carry identification, you have no worries of us turning up with ladders strapped to the roof rack of a car and us dressed in jeans and a t shirt.  We respect your property and take our shoes off upon entering so not to paddle dirt everywhere.

Quality Products and Competetive Pricing…

If you’ve heard about us from recommendation or read some of our testimonials from previous customers then it goes without saying you that the quality of products we use are simply the best on the market – its something we have never took a short cut with and never will, for this reason alone we can never offer the ‘cheapest price’ because there is always someone else thats willing to cut corners and use inferior parts and win jobs – by undercutting and quoting the lowest they can, its usually new start ups and people that are desperate for work that follow this route or the nationals the employ switch selling, the moment they have the foot in the door the price will soon change……..

However what we can offer is very competetive pricing for the best quality products, service and installation practices available – even if you find a like for like quotation or estimate – can they match our qualifications? our experience? our test equipment? our reputation? its highly unlikely that they can!!! – or that their pricing WILL be as competetive as ours.

So if you want a high quality installation AT the right price……then look no further.

And remember when your looking at a list of aerial and satellite installers in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire or Humberside Picture Perfect Aerials should be YOUR no.1 choice………

Storm Damage

The high winds and bad weather in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire and Humberside has been causing problems for many residents – with satellite dishes being blown out of alignment aerials falling down and so on…………

The majority of these issues arise from poorly fitted rigs and cost cutting on parts combined with bad installation practices!!!

Its usually the lowest priced installs where the problems arise – due to riggers using the cheapest parts available usually 1″ diameter poles and 6″ pressed plate brackets that are just not able to cope with such poor weather conditions and high winds.

If you need to have any work carried out due to storm/weather damage you can usually claim any expenses back from your home insurance.

The most difficult part for us if you do suffer from storm damage in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire or Humberside is getting you up and running again quickly for several reasons, if the driving winds rain and general bad weather is still here it can be nigh on impossible to work at height and secondly generally there isn’t just you affected the calls tens to come thick and fast….

Yesterday alone we received 13 calls from Scunthorpe residents all with reception issues due to the weather and so far everyone we have managed to visit has had poorly installed rigs or has been a DIY job and thats the reason for the fault.

So far not one of our rigs has generated a call back in these winds that includes the big dishes we install some over 4ft in diameter!!!!!!!!!!

So if you want any work carried out in Scunthorpe Lincolnshire and Humberside wether its storm damage or a new job or service call why not call Picture Perfect Aerials Continue reading

Winter is just around the corner

Winter is just around the corner

With recent reports that we are facing some of the harshest winter weather we’ve seen in a long time in the Scunthorpe Lincolnshire and Humberside regions – it may be time to consider having a check on your aerial and satellite system.  The last thing you want is for it to fail, at a time that’s extremely difficult for us to both get to your property and access safely where the dish or aerial are sited.

High winds, rain, snow and ice can cause havoc with your TV reception and picture quality and failure is usually at the worst possible time.  Even worse though is if your aerial or satellite dish was to fall and collapse causing damage to either your’s or someone else’s property or even possibly causing an injury or fatality.

‘Remember a stitch in time saves nine’

Can you afford NOT to have your TV reception system checked out?

Picture Perfect Aerials offer very reasonable service call rates and only provide the best quality parts available on the market.

Book now before the Christmas rush to save disappointment.

A quick guide to setting up a motorised satellite dish using USALS

Decide where you want to mount your dish, it will need a clear line of site to the south with no obstructions.  The lower you mount your dish the easier the install will be.

A good website to use is ‘Dishpointer’ to project satellite ‘line of sight’

Install a good quality set of brackets taking your time to ensure both they and the pole are 100% true straight and plumb.  T and K brackets are probably your best choice for wall mounting as they allow plenty of movement when setting up.  Ensure you use good quality fixings as satellite dish faces are subjected to high wind loading and the last thing you want is for the whole lot to come crashing down.

Adjust the motor scale to YOUR latitude/elevation, also set the dish declination/elevation as per the handbook recommendations (note: this may need adjustment for fine tuning/ accurate alignment to ensure the dish tracks the satellite arc – so only nip up bolts for now).
Fasten the dish onto the motor shaft ensuring its tightened accurately on the centre of the shaft.

Lift the dish and motor assembly onto your pole pointing in a rough south direction.

Run a good quality benchmarked coaxial cable from the dish to where your receiver will be and connect the two together ensuring you have made good  ‘f’ connections.

Set up your receiver and connect to your TV, then enter YOUR Longitude and Latitude into the motorised USALS (Universal Satellites Automatic Location System) menu.

Send the dish to YOUR due south satellite OR the satellite closest to your longitude.

Align the dish and motor assembly by moving both around the pole until you receive a signal you may also have to adjust the dish declination and elevation to optimise the signal.
Once happy tighten everything up, send the dish from one extremity to the other checking its tracking the arc correctly, don’t forget to set the motor stops to prevent the dish fouling the wall or any obstacles.

FREE UK TV

Q , WHICH CHANNELS ARE ON BOTH FREEVIEW AND FREESAT ?

Both free services have a common set of core channels, including the BBC, ITV and channel 4 families. ( including HD channels) Russia today, Al Jazeera English, several shopping channels and many radio stations.  The Freeview line up does vary in Wales, Ireland and Scotland, where regional services replace some national ones.

FREEVIEW

Q. WHICH CHANNELS ARE EXLUSIVE TO FREEVIEW ?

Freeview hosts several channels which are not on Freesat  including Yesterday, Dave, Viva, 5* and 5USA, Quest, sky news and some radio channels.

Q. WHY CANT I GET ALL THE FREEVIEW CHANNELS ?

Most of the country receives Freeview from a main transmitter which broadcasts the full 40 ish TV channels. Some areas can only receive relay transmitters which broadcast just 15 Freeview channels including Freeview HD.

Q. WHEN DOES MY AREA SWITCH TO FREEVIEW ?

Most of the UK will have gone digital by the end of 2011, but you can check your specific switchover date with Digital UK or by phoning  08456 50 50 50 .
After the switchover digital channels will be available at a higher power than before, the last area’s to switch will be in summer 2012.

Q. DO I NEED A NEW AERIAL OR BOOSTER ?

If you can receive analogue TV without much snowy noise on screen, then your Freeview reception after switchover will be fine. If your aerial cables are very old, this may be a good time to replace them.
If you have a signal amplifier and you lose reception at digital switchover, the increased power may be overloading your TV or receiver.
Either remove the booster or turn the gain down, and you should get your picture back. Indoor aerials should work better after switchover because transmission power is being significantly increased.

Q. IS DIGITAL SWITCHOVER THE END OF THE PROCESS ?

There may be some regional Freeview retunes in 2013 after digital switchover, because some multiplexes are being moved to make space for Europe wide high speed mobile broadband.

FREESAT

Q. WHAT CHANNELS ARE EXCLUSIVE TO FREESAT ?

There are more than 50 free channels not available on Freeview, including CBS’s Drama, reality and action channels, The Horror Channel, Bet , True Movies, Movies4Men, Food Network plus many more.

Q. MUST I USE A SPECIAL RECEIVER TO GET FREESAT ?

Any free to air satellite receiver can pick up Freesat channels, but only Freesat-badged receivers can access the Freesat programme guide and only f=Freesat HD products can access the BBC i Player and ITV player via broadband.

Q. CAN I FIT FREESAT MYSELF OR USE A SKY DISH ?

Freesat dishes are identical to those used by sky and are fairly simple to self install. If you have an existing sky dish, or a sky dish with a quad lLNB and unused outputs, you can use this.

Q. CAN I WATCH NON-FREESAT CHANNELS ON A FREESAT RECEIVER ?

All Freesat receivers have a non Freesat mode which lets you tune in channels that aren’t in the Freesat EPG. The capabilities of this mode vary between manufacturers, and you may not be able to record non Freesat channels.

SKY

Q. HOW MUCH DOES SKY COST ?

Sky subscriptions are built from channel packages of about 20 channels , variety, children’s, knowledge, style & culture, music and news events.

The first package costs £ 19.50 a month plus £ 1 per month for each additional package. Five sky sports channel cost add £ 20.25 a month, and the 12 sky movie channels add £ 16 a month. Sky world combines everything for £ 52 a month, including sky 3D.

Q. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF RECEIVER ?

Free to air can pick up thousands of unencrypted channels. common interface: the Cl slot can hold a conditional access module containing decryption hardware, which in turn holds a viewing card.

What size dish do I need, what am I allowed on my house, and how many can I have ?

On a building up to five storeys you are allowed 1 antenna up to 1 metre across, and a second , or any chimney mounted antenna, may be up to 60 cm. special rules cover buildings in national parks and other designated areas.

Larger dishes require planning permission.

Take care when sitting the dish, especially if you have more than one, using chimney breasts and eaves disguise.

Non metallic paint can be used to blend into buildings.

Q. HOW CAN I GET MORE THAN ONE SATELLITE

Fixed dishes : a multi-feed bracket or mono block LNB ban pick up extra satellites, and are selected using DiSEqC switches.
A motor can be added to dishes up to 1 m to rotate it between satellites. Larger dishes will need a powerful 36 v motor drive and positioner.

Q. HOW CAN I WATCH ENCRYPTED SATELLITE CHANNELS ?

The legal route is to obtain a viewing card and CAM , usually via import.
There’s no official market for this, but the grey market is legal in the EU provided there‘s no commercial gain from your use of equipment. It will almost certainly break the contract under which the card was provided, so the broadcaster can cut you off at any time. Many receivers can be hacked to emulate the CAM and card. Distribution of these codes, and instructing how to use them, is piracy and is a criminal offence.

Q. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LINUX BASED RECEIVERS ?

Many receivers are now based on the Linux PC operating system, and most famous is the dream box and it‘s enigma operating system. Linux based devices can be programmed to do almost anything the hardware is capable of, with plug ins for media players , spectrum analysers, blind search. DiSEqC control,  home and internet media streaming or wallpaper and menus.

Q. WHAT ABOUT ANALOGUE SATELLITE TV ?
