THE FUTURE OF TELEVISION IS CHANGING

 

Since Picture Perfect Aerials and Satellites started trading we as a company and you as a viewer have seen a vast change in the way we watch television and the way televisions look.

When we first started installing aerials most households just had one TV set per home.

Today most homes have a TV in nearly every room of the house using TV providers such as Sky, Virgin, Freesat or Freeview. This has led into people having to expand their old TV aerial system with additional cables, amplifiers, splitters, filters etc for multi-room viewing.

Televisions have changed so much as well we are now able to purchase Plasmas, LCD, LED and soon OLED TV’s all able to display High Definition and some even 3D visuals.

All modern TV’s now have slim line looks for space saving rather than the old chunky CRT television sets. They also starting making them with built in Freeview or Freesat with the intention to make thinks neater without having the need for an additional Freeview or Freesat set top boxes.

This leading to the new fashion of having your TV hung on the wall , again for a neater more modern look and for space saving.

All this and more has happened in the last ten years and we are all purchasing these items as they are the modern way forward – and we all have all or most of these new technologies in our homes now.

We have just been introduced to one of the newest advances which is Smart TV’s that are internet active.

Panasonic claim that in 10 to 15 years the newest TV being introduced will be
the Digital Wall TV . Composed of a large grid of touch-sensitive panels, the wall has tiles that can be segmented to display different applications or unified to project one larger-than-life video image.

 

Although we all love the newest technology , it can also be very daunting as to which TV you should get and then the prospect of tuning it can be quite daunting for a lot of people and as for hanging your new TV? we don’t all have the tools or time to do this ourselves.

We have been trained by both Sky and the CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) and have accreditation’s from not only them but also a Safe Working at Heights Certificate, City and Guilds Certificates in Electronic and Electrical Servicing (Signal Reception) and have attended seminars from Promax Electronics and gained certification in ‘Understanding Digital Television Transmissions’, we also have gained System Q CCTV certification as well as all our staff being Digital UK Approved adviser’s.

 

Experience…

We have been installing aerials and satellite systems since the advent of Digital TV when most houses only had 1 main TV and the others were run off an indoor aerial.

Picture Perfect Aerials was established in 2003 but prior to that the business owner Kelvin Massey was aerial rigging whilst also being hired working as part of a ‘Special Heights Team’ for SKY, this involved surveying and carrying out satellite installations where others have said it was not possible.

As times have changed our experience has grown, from installing aerials to get the five analogue stations to working with the initial low powered Digital TV signals and now we see the opposite where TV transmitter signals are extremely powerful and rather than amplifying its time to attenuate to reduce the off air signals and filter out the unwanted signals to help prevent transmitter overlap.

Now we see High Definition and 3D TV via satellite and several of these HD channels are available through a roof top aerial – TV over the Internet is becoming more and more popular as Internet speeds increase so we move forward -now as people’s systems and expectations grow we are having to advance and use different methods to satisfy thier needs.  Setting up peoples TV distribution systems with cat5e and cat6 Ethernet cables and HDMI leads to allow HD and 3D distribution and control via matrix’s and switches is becoming more and more popular.  Fibre optic cabled satellite systems are readily available which allow signals to pass for kilometers with next to no signal loss, so satellite dishes can be positioned discreetly and the distance doesn’t play such a factor.

Test Equipment….

Using the correct testing equipment is an obvious advantage and whilst there are many different brands and manufacturers out there all providing different performance Promax TV explorers are some of the best out there and no professional installer should be without a decent spectrum analyser – some may get by with just a cheap bleeper and tester, after all its how we all started out – BUT once you hit a problem with reception unless you are using a professional piece of kit that can read all signals and analyse them in detail then its just a guessing game.

Promax Explorers are equipped with a spectrum analyser and TV screen as well as being able to do the following

  • Video decoding: MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 H.264
  • Audio decoding: Dolby Digital Plus, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and AAC

CAT 5 and 6 DATA and Distribution

We install cat 5 and 6 cables for data and distribution. If you look at all of the new TV sets, they all have ethernet connections. These are required for interactive services such as streaming movies, information, updates and BBC Iplayer.
