When Digital TV came along we were promised more channels and more importantly more Quality.
Now many have gone through the digital switchover and now have the vastly increased signal levels and quality transmitted – will this be the end of TV aerial reception woes?
Possibly not for many………..
UHF channels 21-68 have been solely used for TV broadcasts for 50 years – but now channels 31-38 and 61-68 are to be cleared of Television broadcasts. The higher group (61-68) is to be used for mobile communications (4G), these signals will be transmitted at just 1MHz above the TV band. For many especially those receiving signals like many Scunthorpe lincolnshire and Humberside residents that receive their TV from the Belmont transmitter may face interference problems if the new 4G base stations are sited near their home…………..
What can be done?
Passive filters wont adequately reject the unwanted signals if the base station is close by and transmitting on channel 61 when you are receiving TV signals on channel 60. Filters may help a little but cant be gauranteed to offer a complete solution, so for many satellite may be the only option.
Hopefully ofcom will restrict these base stations sited in the vicinity of TV transmitters that are using channel 60 and insist the transmissions used are channel 63/63.
We will wait and see……………..
