Cowboy aerial installers and DIY bodge jobs
Every day we see some of the biggest bodge jobs imaginable from people claiming to be aerial installers or trying a bit of DIY. Below are a few examples of some of the shoddy work we have had to clean up fix and rectify. I will try to update this post regularly with new pictures for your amusement.
Cowboy Aerial Installers and DIY bodge jobs

- Cowboy aerial installers
Why on earth someone had mounted this 100cm dish on the chimney no one knows – it has a clear line of sight from the front of the building!. Not only does it break planning regs but its also down right dangerous. This picture was taken by one of our engineers whilst travelling to a job.

- Cowboy aerial installers
This is an remotely powered internal amplifier mounted externally what ever next !!!

What not another internal splitter mounted externally, this one with a poor attempt to protect from the elements by electricians tape – God forbid spending £5-10 on a proper external fully weatherproof unit. The shortcuts some riggers take to make a few extra quid is unreal.
Cowboy Aerial Installers !!!

Is that a broom handle?
We saw this whilst working on another property and it made us chuckle, presumably a DIY job!

Not sure what this loon is doing or whether he is even an aerial installer – but more concerning is where are his ladders?!?

This dish has been drilled to a chimney and a small one at that – this isn’t the correct way to mount either a dish or an aerial they should be fastened with a chimney lashing kit.

Yet another internal splitter mounted externally – although slightly shielded from the elements by mounting under the gutter it is still susceptible to water ingress, for under a fiver a weather proof enclosed splitter could have been fitted.

This is not a lashing wire, I’m not sure what it is exactly maybe fence wire but whatever its dodgy………..

Yet another indoor splitter left outside, i couldn’t work out if the tape on the F connectors was a lame attempt at waterproofing or it was just to hold the connections on the cheap and nasty cable. Not very professional at all.

This amplifier is called a “Masthead” amplifier there is a clue in the name that this should be ideally fitted on the errrrr “Mast” NOT behind the TV – where it will be prone to all kinds of interference especially with poor cable connections like these, they are disgusting and amateurish….. This amplifier should amplify the signal where its at its strongest and will help overcome cable loss.

I am told this Sky dish was fitted by an electrician – dishes and aerials shouldn’t be drilled to chimneys they should be lashed properly – what makes this one even worse was that it was very high on a 3 story building open to high winds and above a public walkway and the fixings used were nowhere near suitable and adequate to safely secure and mount it
